The Fourth Monkey of Gandhi Jee

Having humble science background, for me, thinking about the fourth law of Newton would have been more apt. But recently I finished reading ‘The story of my experiments with truth’ by Mahatma Gandhi and since then I have been mesmerized by this great leader, the father of Nation, to a great extent. To exaggerate the situation I can compare my situation with that of Sanjay dutta in movie Lage raho Munnabhai. And if I don’t exaggerate the situation then I would say I have been more occupied in sculpturing the fourth monkey of Gandhi Jee in my mind. Crimes and vices are increasing at exponential rates and so the concept of many more monkeys is totally justified.

The three monkeys as all of us know are ‘Don’t see Bad’, ‘don’t speak bad’ and ‘Don’t hear bad’. The fourth one which I would introduce is ‘Don’t wish bad’.

What inspired me to sculpture this monkey is the way people have molted themselves today. We feel happier with unsuccessfulness of others than the success of ourselves.
With stiff competition in every field we are now counting more on failures of others for our own success. This has created a space in our heart to wish bad for others. Often we secretly wish that the son of our neighbor shouldn’t get more marks than my son , my colleague shouldn’t have a car better then mine and so on. A subtle point which can be flanked here is about the way of our thinking. Instead of wishing for neighbour’s son to have less marks we can think of my son getting more marks. Objectivity of both the thinking may be same but the former imbibes negative energy in us and so in society where as the later thinking imbibes a sense of genuine competition. However to our lament, currently negative thinking, negative energy is slowly engulfing most of us. This is somewhat dangerous sign of prevalent and expanding crack in social and ethical fabric of our society. Even in relationship where love should be of utmost importance secret bad wish for other partner is garnering some space.

So next time if your heart try to wish bad for other just take a deep breath and say to yourself with smile – DON’T WISH BAD.
